1 in 12 Canadian adults – that’s 1.3 million Canadians – live with heart disease according to the Canadian Health Foundation. An arrhythmia is an abnormal heart rhythm and almost always a symptom of heart disease. Your heart’s pumping is triggered by electrical impulses that begin in your heart’s sinus node. An arrhythmia may cause your heart to beat too slowly (called bradycardia, when a heart rate is less than 60 beats per minute), too fast (called tachycardia, when a heart rate is more than 100 beats per minute), or cause uncoordinated contractions (called fibrillation).
A normal heart rhythm shows that the electrical activity in the heart is following the normal pathway. The rhythm is regular, and the sinus node function is considered normal when beating between 60 to 100 beats per minute. Arrhythmia treatment is dependent on the type and severity of the arrhythmia. In some cases of mild arrhythmia, no treatment is necessary. Treatment options include medications, lifestyle changes, invasive therapies, electrical devices or surgery.
Care.Wallet can be configured to be able to allow patients with arrhythmia problems to monitor and manage their health every day. Furthermore, patients will be able to save all their records in one place to better track their changes. This way, the doctor will be able to see the changes in their patient’s health as well. Patients will be able to submit their health changes in response to the How Are You Feeling Today Care.Card. With this Care.Card patients will have the opportunity to share their records with the doctor and their loved ones. As well as see the doctors’ recommendations and even the prescriptions changes.
During the treatment for arrhythmia, it’s highly important to know: the names of your medications, what they are for, how often and at what times to take them. A Care.Wallet configured for arrhythmia patients can let them be able to track access to the complete information on medicines they are taking and time when they need to take the medicines. This Care.Card will help not only patients but also doctors to see what medicines were previously prescribed, allowing the doctor to have a better understanding of the patients’ treatment history leading to better care.
